Project MORE High School at a Glance
Israel Macias is the proud principal of Teenage Parent and Project MORE Alternative High School in TUSD and has been a long-time fan and supporter of providing alternatives to students who’ve not experienced success, for whatever reason, in traditional high school settings.
Mr. Macias has 29 years of public-school experience, all in alternative school settings. He became a teacher in 1994 and a principal in 2003 in Oakland CA and helped create a school for students that were expelled from the district. That passion in helping marginalized students continued when he moved to ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp AZ in 2007 as he wanted to return into the classroom and taught at the Life Skills Suspension program in TUSD for middle school students. He later became a Senior Program Coordinator and back to being a principal in TUSD in 2015.
Mr. Macias holds a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from California State University, East Bay. He also holds a B.A. degree in Sociology with a minor in History from Whittier College, California.
Mr. Macias is married, has two children, and a four-legged child named “Lucy”. He loves, cooking with his family, camping, U of A basketball, fixing things, and would love one day to learn how to weld and teach salsa dancing.
